these are few of my favorite things
it's really great when you live with a cousin who loves reading as much as you do. what's even greater is living with a cousin who loves reading as much as you do and has rich parents. when we were growing up, we both read the same sweet valley kids, twins, high, and senior year books, as well as sweet dreams and love stories. we then moved on to chick lits and gossip girl. but as we grew older, we both developed our own book preferences. i didn't have a choice before, as i was highly dependent on the books that she usually bought because i couldn't afford to buy books. i find it hard to believe myself sometimes that for someone who loves to read, i am really kuripot when it comes to buying books. anyway, lately she has been reading a lot of haruki murakami books. i have a huge reading backlog (which includes my new anatomy book and the pharma book that i am planning to buy), but i decided to give murakami a try because i shari seemed to like his works so much. the book i read was after dark. i found it weird. it took me ages to finish the short book with the sweet valley twins font (haha) because i had to read a few paragraphs again and again. call me blond or whatever but i didn't understand it the story that much. i stuck it out till the end because i thought that i needed something a bit more challenging, having just finished two chick lits, namely love rosie and ps i love you, both by cecelia ahern. now i am trying to read another murakami book, which is south of the border and west of the sun. my cousin says i shouldn't have read after dark as an introduction to the murakami books and i should have started with the book that i am reading now, to be able to appreciate the author easier. i have just finished the 1st chapter this morning, and so far so good i haven't been confused yet. hehe.
my tita took me and my cousin to bonifacio high street earlier this afternoon to see if there's anything we liked at crocs, but we wrinkled our nose at the ugly slippers and headed off a few doors back to the havaianas store and ended up buying something there. i do own a pair of crocs, but those are just cheap knock offs that i bought from sm, and i only wear them inside the OR because although those things are ugly, they are way comfy-ier (hehe) than regular slippers. of course a trip to that outdoor mall is not complete without passing by the fully booked flagship store. i was disappointed however when i got inside because there wasn't a chuck palahniuk book in stock. my cousin didn't want me to leave the store without buying something (besides her mom is paying hehe), but i refused to buy anything other than a palahniuk book. i wanted to buy a place called here by cecelia ahern so i could complete all of her books, or a jane green book, but i decided against it at the last minute because like what i have said before, i wanted to read something more challenging. besides, i do have a huge reading backlog. it's funny because even if the fully booked store had five floors, i bet powerbooks alabang had more chuck books than them. haha. maybe i'm just bitter because i failed to score a free book from my tita. haha.
but inspite of the said backlog, i would still like to start building up my chuck palahniuk collection. i wish i had the money to do so.
the second sem officially starts on thursday. waaaah. still not ready.
