Time Wasters.

why did i watch this movie? two words. jude.law. i think he's hot. i chose this over shall we dance because people say that it is a gay movie (no offense to people who are well, gay, and the people who actually like this movie) and since i was with my high-society cousins, let the love begin and dream boy was not really a counted as choices.

the movie opens with of course, jude law... or is him having sex with yet another woman? i can't really remember. that gorgeous half-smile with the accent to match was all i could see. sadly, it was all there is. after you get over the shock of seeing jude law's handsome face, you just get tired of staring at him. not that he got less gorgeous as the movie went on (in fact he got hotter), but as the people in the perfect world have said, looks aren't just everything. i do not care if the critics in the united states say that alfie is one of the best movies of the year, and it should be nice coz it is a remake of a classic movie. i found the story boring. and pointless. yes the guy got what he deserved at the end, he finally came to his senses that he can't really f*ck around all his life, but was a little too late because when he tried getting back the women that he scammed, not even one wanted him back. apparently they all came to their senses too, and realized that the chariming, sexy eurotrash is nothing but trash wrapped in beautiful paper.

well the story pretty much revolved around alfie, how promiscuous he is, how much of a horny bastard he is coz he slept with his bestfriend's girl and even got her pregnant. that's pretty much it. it's too bad that i am not a big fan of jude law's or i might have enjoyed this movie more. coz bad movie or not, nothing can change the fact that alfie is hot and he can get into my pants anytime. hehe.

however, i still want the 100 pesos i paid for the movie and the 2 hours of my life back.

oh a bonus for the guys: you will see a beautiful blond woman take her top off and tried to cut vegetables in the raw. it bounces in time with motion of the knife if you what i mean.

i have to admit, i am a sucker for love stories. droves of people tried to get home before 9 each night just to catch the latest episode of lovers in paris. i admit, the story was intriguing after i saw my 1st episode. well it kinda ruined the series for me since it was the episode ki-joo (carlo) brought tae-young (vivian) home to introduce to his rich snotty family. from then on, i understood why people got so hooked. so when a family member finally got hold of the complete dvds of the series, i took the time and watched it.

so it was the classic pinoy love story: rich guy, poor girl. guy's family is against the poor girl and wishes that the rich guy marry this other rich girl whose family can be a powerful ally in the business that the family is into. never mind that it is korean, pinoys have exhausted this plot so much i still wonder why stories like these still comes off as a hit. i was a little puzzled at myself because i got used with meteor garden, you know cheesy story but 4 hot guys. lovers in paris had none. sorry, goatee-wearing-sensitive-artist soo-hyug (martin) is not really my type. yes the vintage shirts were cool but what's up with the jacket? neither is suave-sophisticated-always-polished ki-joo. however as i grew to love the characters, i actually found the 2 boys cute. although i know most people loved soo-hyug (because he is in fact sweeter and more gentleman-ly than ki joo), i loved his uncle/brother ki-joo. i loved that he was always wearing a business suit and how he almost never smiles, but when he does, that dimple in his left cheek is just to die for. i might be a little biased because i love dimples. hehe.

so anyway, tae-young, who barely had money and had to work to be able to stay in school and afford that apartment in paris, was hired as a housemaid working for ki-joo's gorgeous apartment home. they met in an unfortunate incident, wherein they realized that they were employer and employee. tae-young was a little irritating at first. she's got way too much spunk in her. soo-hyug's role is a bit complicated. i know everyone, myself included thought that tae-young is going to choose him because he makes her laugh, and what i have said before, he is just plain sweeter. he knows je likes tae-young and tells her about in a straight-forward manner. but like wome everywhere, tae-young is more drawn to the myseterious guy with the cold demeanor. mystery is such a turn-on for girls it's almost nauseating. anyway, so both guys are related to each other and went for the same girl. now here's where the story differs from the perfect world: the rich, cold guy won the girl.

unfortunately that's the easy part. ki-joo and syo-hyug discovered an important family secret. syo-hyug turned against ki-joo and tried to take him down. blah blah. i won't bore you with the details.

now here is where it gets a bit irritating. the ending. it's just sad to discover that the story we have just seen is a by-product of the female lead's imagination. no big wedding or even just a kissing scene. boo. no wonder the pinoy who brought the series in the philippines decided to modify the ending just a teeny bit. it was disappointing. i wanted to break something after i finished the series. it was such a shame too because it really had a great plot. the family secret twist was enough, why ruin it by dismissing everything as a product of one's imagination? i couldn't help but feeling i have wasted almost 20 hours of my life. no, actually just 20 minutes. just the last 20 minutes of the whole series.
Currently listening to: twilight world - swing out sister
